Abstract

This text is based on the compilation of a myth about the first man who committed suicide for love trying through this way to This reach the place in the far beyond, where his woman was. it also describes in detail the ceremony currently celebrated by the Miskitu peoples in honor of such event. As an introduction to the presentation of the myth and the ceremony, the author expresses the way in which this myth, as with other oral traditions serves us individuals as a means of keeping us within our society and our environment; and to reconstruct our culture, since this is a collective phenomenon with a common origin, history and geography, and not an individual or isolated phenomenon.
