Abstract

This article is based on the compilation of oral accounts of three Monkey Point’s women.  The author considers that these narratives provide a valuable input to understand the political subjectivities and the local chronicles that motivate present claims of Monkey Point’s women for communal rights to land. She argues that not by chance these oral accounts do transmit a version of history that has long remained subordinated to wider nationalist and academic accounts of Atlantic Coast’s history. She also sustains that Monkey Point’s accounts contribute insights about the class, gender and race differentiation within the same creole community of Monkey Point.
