Pearl Lagoon's indigenous and ethnic communities: between modernity and tradition

Abstract

The indigenous productive system cannot be understood outside of its socio-cultural context. First, we must know the indigenous cosmovision and ask ourselves which axioms and values are still in force in the Pearl Lagoon communities. This article proposes a synthetic analysis of the productive system of the indigenous and ethnic communities of Pearl Lagoon. The text analyzes the economic activities and their changes in recent history. Starting from the idea that a society cannot be studied without comparing it with others, the author proposes to make a comparative work between this indigenous society and ours, on the basis of environmental sustainability and not around variables pertaining only to one of the two societies, since environmental issues are definitely of a global nature.
