Política de sección por defectoPrivacy Statement
This statement applies to revistas.bicu.edu.ni (the journals Wani and Huellas) and to the Editorial BICU mobile app, published by Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University. This page is the current statement. It was updated on 17 October 2026.
Who is responsible
The University Press of Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University publishes the journals and operates the account you use on the website and in the app.
- Developer of the Editorial BICU app: sangyingch@gmail.com
- Journal contact: wani@bicu.edu.ni
- Address: Barrio San Pedro, Avenida Universitaria, Sede Central, Bluefields, Nicaragua
Data collected by the Editorial BICU app
You can read published issues and articles without an account. If you register or sign in, it is the same account as on the journal website.
- Account. Name, email address and password. The password is stored in hashed form, not as plain text.
- Google. If you sign in with Google, we receive the verified name and email that Google provides, only to create or find your user. We do not access your contacts and we do not use this data for advertising.
- Apple. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email that Apple provides, for the same purpose.
- Activity in the app. Favorites, comments and reading history, linked to your account and stored on the journal server.
- Notices. Only if you accept them. The phone then allows notifications, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) uses a device identifier to tell you when Wani or Huellas publishes a new issue or article. There are no ads. You can decline notices or turn them off in the system settings.
The app does not ask for your location, photos, contacts or payment details. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Data collected by the journal website
Names and email addresses entered on the journal site are used for the account, submissions and the editorial process. They are not sold or given to third parties for other purposes.
Why we use the data
- To create your session and let you sign in to the app and the website with the same account.
- To show favorites, comments and what you were reading.
- To send notices of new publications, if you asked for them.
- To run the editorial work of Wani and Huellas.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data and we do not use it to track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
- The university keeps the account on its own servers.
- Google is involved if you use Sign in with Google or if you accept notices (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Apple is involved if you use Sign in with Apple.
Those services only identify your account or deliver the notice you accepted. Their policies are those of Google and Apple.
How long we keep it and how to delete it
Account data is kept while the account exists. You can delete it in the app under Profile, using Delete account and your password. If you no longer have the app, request deletion at revistas.bicu.edu.ni/eliminar-cuenta or email wani@bicu.edu.ni and sangyingch@gmail.com from your account address. Requests are handled within 30 days.
Deleting a reader account removes the user, favorites, comments and the app reading history. If the account has editorial work on a journal, access is closed and the email is removed, while the editorial records the journal needs are kept.
Security
The website and the app communicate over HTTPS. The password is not stored in plain text. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your requests
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data by writing to sangyingch@gmail.com or wani@bicu.edu.ni.
