Abstract

The issue of rural populations located inside or around protected areas is widely debated today. The two most prominent positions essentially concern the absence or presence of populations inside the protected areas. On one side, people in favor of the absence of populations inside these areas argue that primary forests are fragile and difficult to revive, and that once humans have impacted them, biodiversity decreases.  On the other side, people who argue that the presence of population inside and around protected areas Is Inevitable claim that some of the traditions help preserve the forest’s biological diversity. This article discusses the debate that goes on between the two approaches.
