Ethno botany of the ramas of southeast Nicaragua and comparisons with the knowledge of the miskitu

Abstract

The present study documents systematically the knowledge of botany by the Rama’s, an ethnic Group descendant from the Chibcha culture that stems from the Northam region of South America and who migrated during the X century to the boundaries of the coastal zone of the southeast of Nicaragua and Northeast of Costa Rica. Toe analysis make comparisons between the Rama’s and Miskitos because of their history of cultural interactions, their lack of kinship, their contact with other ethnic groups and the fact that they share the same ecosystem. it documents approximately 249 species of plants within 190 genres and 78 families. The article also contains a brief description and discussion of each of the plants that were found.
