Abstract

In this interview, the director of the National Forestry Institute-INAFOR talks about the strategy implemented by this institution in parallel to the process of demarcation and titling of indigenous communities and territories. According to the interviewee, this strategy is mainly based on a program called community forestry, whose objective is to establish cooperatives or small companies that will take advantage of the resource in a sustainable manner, but in such a way that the community members not only cut and saw the wood, but also extend the process to the production of products. It also explains the actions contemplated with the timber felled by Hurricane Felix in the RAAN, for the benefit of these cooperatives.
