Abstract

Decades-long investigation, whose author is a coastal Nicaraguan. Because of its importance and dimension, we present it in two parts. In this first installment we document the use of plants by the Nicaraguan Garifuna: the ways in which they obtain these plants, their uses, processing, traditional modes of treatment and comparisons and interactions with Western medicine. In the second installment we will present the extensive list of these plants.
