Abstract

This text contains comments about three books recently appeared that make a significant  contribution to the knowledge of the Nicaraguan Caribbean society its political history, the formation of its cultural identities and the present challenges on the topics of land and  autonomy and a Miskito legend that, according to the author of the books review, is a metaphor to reflect on the importance of the legacy of  history, the protection of the natural habitat and the formation of a "costeño" political community. The books reviewed invite, each in its own way, to consider the social memory, the political history and the human rights of the indigenous people an ethnic community of the Caribbean, as members of a society in search of new relations among themselves and with the Nicaraguan state.
