Characteristics of indigenous agroecology

Abstract

Every agro-productive system is determined not only by the biophysical framework, but also by its ethno-cultural, socio-economic and political characteristics. Historically, indigenous peoples have used local initiatives linked to nature. In this regard, agroecology is based on indigenous experiences on the ecological dimension, analyzing the appropriation of the agroecosystem and its forms of management, wisdom, rationality and practical meanings. It is now recognized that indigenous people have knowledge of entomology, botany, soils, agronomy, with technologies and agricultural practices that are more sensitive to the natural environment. Agro-industrial development, on the other hand, ignores this or deliberately excludes it.
