The group ‘Linguists for Nicaragua' (interview with Dr. Keneth Hale)

Abstract

From 1985 onwards, an international group of linguists began a series of activities endeavoring to study, document, develop and recover the languages of the Atlantic Coast.  This had no precedent in Nicaragua's linguistic historiography.  In addition, this group encouraged the training of scholars from the region in linguistic documentation.  This interview with Dr.  Kenneth Hale, the group’s leader, is published in this magazine for the first time and this issue of Wani is dedicated to his memory.  it describes all the activities, which helped promote the process of documentation, development and preservation of the Atlantic Coast languages.
