Abstract

This enriching analysis compares experiences and methodologies in the processes of legalization and demarcation of indigenous lands and territories in Nicaragua, in neighboring Central American countries and in Brazil. The intention is to draw from these various experiences a participative methodology for land demarcation and territorial control, including a guide for community-based diagnosis and resolution of land conflicts. The author recommends disseminating this methodology in both autonomous regions and setting up a team of permanent advisers from the universities and re search centers of the Atlantic Coast for the local communities.
