Abstract

The Caribbean pine is probably the most extensively planted tropical pine in tropical and subtropical areas.  it is also one of the forest species that has great economic potential for forest production in Central America. It adjusts well to a great variety of sites, especially damaged areas, where the growth of other species is limited.  This article looks at its common names and its natural and induced distribution within the ecological framework of the Atlantic Coast and the dry mountains of the interior. The article also examines the species associated with pine in the savannahs, beach wilds, mangroves and marshes.  In addition, the articles contain a botanical description of the pine’s bark, leaves, branches, flowers, grains, and wood.
