Electoral participation on the Atlantic Coast

Abstract

In this article we will analize the participation of the Coast people in the elections, primarily in the regional autonomous elections. The principal conclusions of this study are that the Caribbean coast has experienced a number of elections higher than that of the rest of the country, any election on the Coast represents higher cost.  higher level of effort to organize and requires more willpower from the voter’s population with lack of information to be able to get to the voting polls.  The increasing number of the voting population in the Autonomous Regions caused by the migration and the expansion of the agricultural frontier have increased the electoral registry, Excluding the regional elections of 2002 and the Municipal Elections of 2000 the different elections in the Autonomous Regions have demonstrated an increase in the number of voters.  In the regional elections the circumscriptions of indigenous populations such as Waspam, Puerto Cabezas, and Desembocadura de Río Grande have had more participation in all the elections, versus the circumscriptions of municipalities affected by the agricultural frontier, which had less participation.
