Abstract

The author of this article studies the religious phenomenon developed among the Miskitus in the 1980's, which is qualified as a form of religious nationalism. According to the author this nationalism had been hidden for decades, and reappeared strengthened again during the revolutionary period. This consolidated the Miskitu nation as a community of believers in a sacred national territory and with a national history, which made possible an ideological change toward violence from Miskitus.
