Abstract

Some of CIDCA's most important contributions to our understanding of the Atlantic Coast come from social scientists, particularly anthropologists, sociologists, human geographers, and political scientists. Much of this work is multidisciplinary in approach, complementing AND drawing inspiration from the initiatives of CIDCA researchers working in the humanities (particularly historians and linguists) and in the “hard” sciences (primarily biologists, botanists, and physical geographers). These social scientists have worked in a number of areas that can be categorized as follows:  'ethnicity' and identity, political processes, household organization, economics, subsistence practices, language, and rituals and beliefs.
