Participating, deliberating and coming to agreements in order to build a multiethnic and intercultural citizenship in Nicaraguan state and society

Abstract

In this article, the National Council of Socioeconomic Planning's Commission on Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast proposes an agenda for the Autonomous Regions to the political authorities that will administer Nicaragua for the 2007-2012 term of office and to the Caribbean community itself. For that purpose, its points out fundamental principles that will help implement autonomous regional development with identity:  the concept of civil society in the Autonomous Regions, ethnic groups’ diverse approaches in relation with autonomy, health, education, territorial demarcation and their own development, and the current challenges faced by civil society and the Regional Governments on Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast.
