The question of indigenous languages in Nicaragua: about the publication of the Miskitu Pedagogical Grammar by Miguel Urbina Moneada and the Trilingual Dictionary: Miskitu- Sumu/ Mayangna/ Spanish by Melba McLean Cornelio and Miguel Urbina Moneada

Abstract

To appreciate the value and significance of the publication of these books by CIDCA-UCA, it is necessary to recall several aspects of the current situation of our national languages: In addition to Spanish, four other indigenous languages are still spoken in Nicaragua: Nicaraguan English, Miskito, Sumo and Rama. As we shall see, Sumo has two varieties that could be considered distinct languages.
