Abstract

This is an extensive review of three books on the legal regime of Nicaraguan autonomy and the current challenges of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua to achieve control over their communal lands and natural resources. The works of the authors of these books (Riverston and Acosta) intersect at a time of great conflict and violence in the indigenous territories, and share, both in the analytical field, as in the activist experience of the authors, the certainty that, despite the formal advances in legislation regarding the rights of the peoples of the Caribbean Coast, these continue to be violated and denied.
