Abstract

This is a price investigation to calculate the cost of the basic basket of 49 products in Bluefields and Bilwi. The methodology used allowed comparison with the price of the basic food basket in other parts of Nicaragua. The products investigated were divided into three groups: food, household goods and clothing. The analysis of the data shows that the cost of the basic food basket in Bilwi and Bluefields is higher than in Managua by 10.5% and 8.2%, respectively. Comparing this research with another conducted in 1999 shows that the basic food basket in Bilwi and Bluefields has increased by 41.3% in Bilwi and 45.3% in Bluefields during these six years.
