Abstract

This is a review of the book The Miskitos of Awastara. Its author visited the Miskito community of Awastara during the 1980s, during which he wrote several meditative and ethnographically rich articles about the life of these Miskitos. This fieldwork carried out in that period served as a reference for a second investigation that the author of the book carried out in the period 1999-2000. During this period, Philip A. Dennis observed that this community has experienced considerable social fragmentation. According to the author of this review, Dennis' account of this crisis is based on a detailed examination of splendidly written and interwoven case studies and case presentations, which narrate themes that emphasize this social fragmentation.
